Encompassing classic and contemporary writers and storytellers, insiders and outsiders, and emerging as well as established wordsmiths, this anthology includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and oral tradition. Oral selections appear in the original Alaska Native language as well as in English.
Anne Hanley was the Alaska State Writer Laureate from 2002-2004, the first playwright to be named to the position. She writes a weekly column for the Anchorage Daily News and the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. She and her husband live in Fairbanks, Alaska. Carolyn Kremers writes literary nonfiction and poetry and is a lecturer in English at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks for half the summer. Kremers is the author of Place of the Pretend People: Gifts from a Yupik Eskimo Village. She lives in Fairbanks, Alaska.
